Alwaght- Russian Defense Minister said on Saturday that six militant commanders along with more than 50 fighters have defected to the Syrian government in the past 24 hours.
The Russian center for reconciliation of rival sides in Syria issued a statement on Saturday, saying "Militants are continuing to lay down arms and to defect to the government forces. Over the past 24 hours, 54 fighters, including six field commanders of illegal armed groups, have laid down arms and defected to the government forces," Sputnik reported.
The news came says after Russian Defense Ministry announced that tens of hundreds of militants have agreed to align with the Syrian army.
"An agreement envisaging that seven field commanders of illegal armed formations and more than 1,000 militants subordinated to them will side with the Syrian government troops has been achieved," the statement said.
Syrian army backed by allies has recently delivered heavy blows to terrorists across the war-torn country making many militants to surrender.
The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, with the government of President Bashar al Assad blaming some Western states, especially the US and their regional allies, including Saudi Arabia, of backing Takfiri terrorists wreaking havoc in the country.
