Under US Pressure Kuwait Expels North Korean Ambassador

Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah Meets US President Donald Trump in Washington (7 September 2017)

Kuwait decide to expel North Korea’s ambassador and other diplomats and reduce the level of Pyongyang diplomats representation in Persian Gulf country to Charge D’Affaires.

Alwaght- Kuwait decide to expel North Korea’s ambassador and other diplomats and reduce the level of Pyongyang diplomats representation in Persian Gulf country to Charge D’Affaires.

Arab Times Online website cited Sources affiliated to Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying “Only four diplomats will remain in the embassy, including the Charge D’Affaires.”

Kuwait is the third country after Mexico and Peru to send back an ambassador of Pyongyang.

The decision by Kuwait is reportedly made under the US pressure as Washington has been putting increased pressure on its allies to cut all ties to North Korea in response to Pyongyang’s missile tests.

Kuwaiti emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah took a recent trip to Washington on 7 September to meet US President Donald Trump

According to Associated Press, a letter Kuwait sent in August to the United Nations also made that pledge.

The news came after American media reported on Friday Trump administration pressed Kuwait to stop employing North Korean workers in its oil fields.

Los Angeles Times reported on Friday US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and his Kuwaiti counterpart have discussed the emirate's employment of guest workers from North Korea.

"As part of sanctions to punish Kim Jong Un's government for its recent nuclear and ballistic missile tests, the U.S. is urging countries everywhere to expel North Korean workers, whose salaries provide much-needed foreign currency for Pyongyang," the American Daily reported.
