Speaking to the Rossiya 1 TV channel, Sergey Shoigu described the Syrian army’s achievements as "really impressive," TASS reported.
The report comes while, Head of the Russian General Staff’s Main Operations Department Sergei Rudskoi , late on July, said that the Syrian army controls 74,200 square kilometers territories, some four times larger than 19,000 square kilometers territories that the army used to seize in 2015.
For nearly six years, Syria has been fighting foreign-sponsored militancy. UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimated in August last year that more than 400,000 people had been killed in the crisis until then. The world body stopped its official casualty count in the war-torn country, citing its inability to verify the figures it received from various sources.
