Alwaght-The recent incident with the Russian jet, which accidentally violated Turkey's airspace, has been used to include NATO in the media war against Moscow's anti-terror operation in Syria.
“Allies note the extreme danger of such irresponsible behavior. They call on the Russian Federation to cease and desist, and immediately explain these violations,” NATO said in a statement.
Russia’s defense ministry said an SU-30 fighter aircraft had entered Turkish airspace “for a few seconds” on Saturday because of bad weather, adding that measures had been taken to prevent a repeat of such incidents. The Syrian state news agency, Sana, said airstrikes hit targets in the provinces of Hama, Latakia, Homs and Idlib.
Ankara claimed that a MiG-29 fighter jet, which is used by both Russia and Syria, harassed two of its F-16s on Sunday by locking radar on them as they patrolled the Turkish-Syrian border. The NATO chief refused to confirm the report.
Condemning Russia's actions in the busy airspace, US State Department spokesperson Mark Toner told reporters: "Frankly, we view this incursion as reckless." Secretary of State John Kerry, who is in Chile, also added: "We are greatly concerned about it because it is precisely the kind of thing that had Turkey responded ... it could have resulted in a shoot-down, and it is precisely the kind of thing we warned against."
NATO's secretary-general said on 6 October he doubted Russia's explanation that its weekend violations of Turkey's airspace were a mistake because there were two such incursions and they lasted longer than just a few seconds.
Turkey says Russia runs the risk of losing its friendly ties with Ankara, after Russian fighter jets violated the Turkish airspace during their anti-ISIS air campaign near the border with neighboring Syria.
"If Russia loses a friend like Turkey with whom it has a lot of cooperation it is going to lose a lot of things. It needs to know this," Tayyip Erdogan warned.
The impression is that the incident in Turkish airspace was used in order to include NATO as an organization into the information campaign unleashed in the West, which perverts and distorts the purposes of the operation conducted by the Russian air forces in Syria.
NATO has ignored clarifications from Russia about the plane incident. All attempts to explain the reasons behind the incident fell on deaf ears, however, with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg describing the situation as "unacceptable violations of Turkish airspace."
Turkey opposes the Russian intervention. Erdogan's government has insisted on Assad’s departure as a prelude to resolve the crisis, and has backed a range of terrorist groups fighting against Assad's government.
The Russian jet's accidental entry into Turkish airspace has added to the geopolitical tensions, which are already high due to allegations that Moscow is targeting Syria's anti-government armed forces alongside ISIS terrorists, and that it doesn't possess the right to enter Syria. Although Russia has the most reliable mandate among that are intervening in the Syrian crisis; because it has authorization from the legitimate Syrian government.
Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State John Kerry has seized the opportunity to distract attention from US failure in Syria by accusing Russia of violating Turkey’s airspace as part of its air campaign against ISIS.
Mark Dankof, a former US Senate candidate, says “John Kerry’s concerns about these alleged Russian incursions into Turkish airspace continue to divert public and world attention from what is absolutely obvious and that is that the military interventions of the United States in Syria have produced even worse results than they have in Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan or half a dozen other places where this type of thing has been attempted.”
Conclusively, disputes between Russia and the US will result in continued destruction in Syria and raise the stakes even higher in terms of a potential super-power confrontation between the United States and Russia that is unnecessary [and] totally avoidable.
Indeed, Moscow’s commitment to the Syrian government runs counter to current US policy, and this is the main pain that can explain all this exaggeration over accidental jet entrance into Turkish airspace.
