Alwaght- Donald Trump's government has denounced as "false" claims by Israeli regime's Primer that the US is engaged in talks with Tel Aviv over “annexation” of occupied Palestinian territories, where the regime is constructing illegal settlements.
"Reports that the United States discussed with Israel an annexation plan for the West Bank are false,” White House spokesman Josh Raffel said. “The United States and Israel have never discussed such a proposal, and the president’s focus remains squarely on his Israeli-Palestinian peace initiative.”
The White House made the announcement Monday after Israeli regime's Netanyahu told a closed-door meeting of his right-wing Likud party’s legislators earlier that Tel Aviv was in talks with Washington to apply “sovereignty” on the Palestinian lands.
"On the subject of applying sovereignty, I can say that I have been talking to the Americans about it for some time,” Netanyahu said.
After the announcement, the Israeli prime minister’s office rushed to clarify his statement, claiming that he had just updated the Americans on proposed legislation in Israeli parliament, known as Knesset..
Recent days have been witness to rare show of discord between American and Israeli leaders as Donald Trump in an interview with Israeli daily Hayom rebuked Tel Avive's settlements' building as "Something that very much complicates and always have complicated making peace".
Asked whether Israeli settlements would form part of the peace plan the US president replied, "So I think Israel has to be very careful with the settlements."
