Top OIC Parliamentarians in Tehran Condemn Trump’s Al-Quds Decision

Alwaght- High ranking parliamentarians from Muslim countries have concluded their meeting in Tehran by condemning US President Donald Trump's recognition of al-Quds (Jerusalem) as Israeli regime capital.

The 13th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States (PUIC) in Tehran concluded its deliberation on Wednesday by issuing a final communiqué.

In the statement, the participants, from the parliaments of 43 Muslim countries and officials from 16 observer organizations, condemned US President Donald Trump's move to declare the city of al-Quds capital of Israeli regime as a threat to global peace and a violation of the Palestinian nation’s rights.

“We consider this measure a threat to international peace and security and an all-out violation of the unalienable rights of the Palestinian nation and a futile measure which distressed Muslims, Christians and all free-thinking human beings across the world,” the statement added.

Support for Palestinian resistance

The OIC parliaments also expressed support for the Palestinian resistance movement in all forms until the people of Palestine can return to their homeland and form an independent government with Quds as its capital.

The statement then called on the Inter-Parliamentary Union to revoke the membership of Israeli regime's parliament, Knesset, as a punitive measure against the regime’s violation of international law.

The Muslim parliamentarians also called on the OIC governments to establish a new economic system based on Islamic unity and lay the groundwork for promotion of financial and economic ties among all the member states.

Trump's racist statements condemned

The Muslim lawmakers also condemned Trump’s racist statements against the people of color and his efforts to link Islam to global terrorism, expressing concern over divisive measures which create misperception among different civilizations and religions.

The OIC legislators also expressed concern over the grave humanitarian crisis in Yemen and underlined the need for efforts to find a political solution for the crisis and expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of the country.

The statement also slammed the blatant violation of the rights of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and the ongoing ethnic cleansing of the Muslim minority. It urged the government of the country to immediately put an end to the atrocities and respect the fundamental human rights and freedoms of all without any racial and religious discrimination.

The Muslim parliamentarians also called on the OIC governments to establish a new economic system based on Islamic unity and lay the groundwork for promotion of financial and economic ties among all the member states.

Severing ties with US

Meanwhile, speaking to the press after the conclusion of the conference, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani suggested that Islamic countries suspend their relations with US.

Larijani pointed to the concern voiced by parliamentary representatives over the problem of al-Quds and terrorism and said “it might very well be the case that the respective governments of several of the parliamentary delegations participating in the conference have close ties with the US. But parliamentary delegations make the voice of their people heard and show the real conditions of Islamic nations.”

“Some parliamentary speakers recommended that Islamic countries that have economic, political relations with the US pressure their governments to suspend their diplomatic relations with the United States so that the US would relinquish its stance against al-Quds,” Larijani said with respect to the problem of al-Quds.

Saudi-led boycott inconsequential

Discussing the reason for the absence of Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt from the Conference, Larijani highlighted the fact that countries participating in the PUIC Conference reject militarism in the region. “Sometimes, certain countries attending conferences issue statements in which they do not actually believe. Attendance at this conference, however, was not obligatory and since it was upon the Islamic Republic of Iran to hold this year’s conference, the outstanding number of 46 countries that attended it certifies the prominent position of Iran.”
