Over 1,000 Militants Agreed to Side with Syrian Government: Russia

Alwaght- More than 1,000 militants have reportedly agreed to align with Syrian army, as the government troops are gaining rapid victories against foreign-backed terrorist and militant groups.

Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement on Thursday saying, "An agreement envisaging that seven field commanders of illegal armed formations and more than 1,000 militants subordinated to them will side with the Syrian government troops has been achieved," Sputnik reported.

The state-run Russian news agency, however, did not provide more detail about the mass surrender, not identifying to what group these armed rebels belong and when they have put down their arms.

Syrian army backed by allies has recently delivered heavy blows to terrorists across the war-torn country making many militants to surrender.

Since the beginning of 2017, territories by ISIS terrorist group in Syria has shrunk by about 70 percent.

Early in September, Syrian army troops, backed by allied fighters from popular defense groups, have managed to break a nearly three-year siege imposed by ISIS Takfiri terrorists on a strategic airbase in the eastern city of Deir Ez-Zor as they continue to make substantial gains against the extremists.

At the same time, pro-government forces in the center of the country also re-started their push into eastern Homs Governorate recapturing many key districts from terrorists.

In June, 60 members of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) militant group have joined the ranks of the Syrian government’s army and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) the backbone of which is the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), Sputnik reported.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, with the government of President Bashar al Assad blaming some Western states, especially the US and their regional allies, including Saudi Arabia, of backing Takfiri terrorists wreaking havoc in the country.
