Alwaght- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) commander says the Islamic Republic will target terrorists in any place.
“We will target counter-revolutionary forces, outlaws and terrorists who are being trained and are planning and plotting to destabilize our border regions at any spot,” the commander of the IRGC's Ground Forces, Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, told Fars news agency on Wednesday.
He said that the IRGC forces had busted a terrorist group seeking to carry out an act of sabotage in the western Iranian city of Sanandaj during the International Quds Day.
The remarks came almost three weeks after the IRGC fired six medium-range ballistic missiles at ISIS targets in Syria’s eastern Dayr al-Zawr province in response to the June 7 twin terrorist attacks in Tehran, which killed 18 people.
The IRGC has said the missiles killed more than 170 Takfiri terrorists, including a number of commanders and senior elements, and inflicted heavy damage on their equipment and systems.
In a related development, a total of 162 Iranian lawmakers in a statement praised the IRGC’s attack against ISIS positions in Syria.
The statement stressed the need to preserve global peace, condemned "any moves by the US and its allies aimed at destabilizing the region," and voiced support for the IRGC’s missile strike against "the ISIS command base in response to indiscriminate attacks by the group.”
Meanwhile, Deputy IRGC Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami praised the military might of the IRGC Ground Force, saying the forces have made the country’s borders “immune” from infiltration of foreigners.
“Today, with the grace of God and thanks to the round-the-clock efforts made by the IRGC Ground Force’s officials and members, the force has become a strong pillar of the country’s national security in the face of foreign and domestic threats,” said Brigadier General Salami, addressing a Wednesday ceremony to inaugurate an IRGC’s airbase in the southern city of Shiraz in Fars Province.
He further referred to hostile acts and plots hatched by the enemies, particularly the US, against Iran and said without the “dedicated efforts” to boost the country’s power, it would not be possible to stand against the enemies.
