Alwaght- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov says that increasing the number the US troops in southern Syria is illegal.
“It is absolutely illegal as the move was not made in accordance with any decision, reached by the UN Security Council, nor was it made following a request by the legitimate authorities in the Syrian Arab Republic”, said Bogdanov in a press conference held Tuesday.
He added that Syria is a sovereign state and a UN member state, affirming that its sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected according to the international law.
Bogdanov said that Moscow does not exclude the possibility of contacts with the US on Syria within a short time.
Earlier, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the situation related to the US-led coalition’s actions stirs serious concern.
Russia has also opposed deployment of additional weapons by the US to Syria terming the move unjustified.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed on Friday that the deployment which includes rocket launchers to south Syria near the Iraqi and Jordanian borders is unjustified.
“As for reports that the Americans are deploying more weapons, including MLRS, to southern Syria on the border with Jordan and Iraq…Russian military are analyzing the situation in the country, including through the channel that we have with the US on preventing unintended incidents,” Lavrov said.
Meanwhile another Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergey Ryabkov, has said that that the US airstrikes on Syria is collusion with terrorists.
Ryabkov told Interfax news agency in an interview that the US airstrikes that targeted the Syrian warplane affirms the US flagrant collusion with terrorism which is active in the Syrian territories.
The Russian Ministry of Defense also called the downing of the plane "a cynical violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic" and "military aggression."
As a result, it said, Russia has stopped using a key "de-confliction" communication channel set up to avoid conflict between US and Russian forces in Syria.
